Day 3 has been much better!
My mom reminded me this morning, I walked around on this injury, basically a broken/almost broken bone for 3 months. 3 months!! That’s a lot of wear and tear. So one, I should be grateful that the bone did not completely and totally fracture. And two, I’ve been resting for 3 days… I can’t repair 3 months of damage in 3 days. This will take TIME, as many of you pointed out. Patience, patience, patience,… never was my strong suit 🙂
And then, I had a few things that brightened up my day a bit.
- My birthday is April 20th and I’ll be 22. No, it’s not a “big” birthday but still, the fact that it looks like I’m going to be on crutches ON my birthday sucks. BUT my mom, my two cousins, my cousins’ mom, and I are going to take a trip to the mountains on my birthday weekend. At first, I was actually bummed a little. And honestly, still am. Why? Vacation on crutches – well, that doesn’t sound too great. But it’s still a trip to the mountains and I can still have fun.
- My boss called with some great news! She promised me that she would try to think of some way that I can still work but be off of my feet and she found a solution! Just call me the Computer Lady 🙂 Let me explain – where I work at the after school program, we have 3 different groups that are divided by grades (K-5 and 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th) and we have 2-3 “counselors” (that’s what my position is called) with each one. And each group rotates through different activities like craft, computer lab, and gym. So I am going to stay in computer lab and work with each group as they rotate, which allows me to sit down the entire time. I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to do and I know that they are just allowing me to do this because they love me and they know I miss working BUT it will be better than sitting around my house all day and I’ll give to see my kids. But this is only if, and it’s a big if, I am feeling better by April 5 (which would be my first day doing this as they have spring break next week). And by feeling better I mean that the injury feels better, I will still be on crutches. So I am praying, praying, praying that I will be feeling up to doing it by then. Because as much as I hate to go out in public on crutches and deal with the sympathy, this will make me SO much happier to have my job back. And you better believe I am going to be resting as much as I possibly can until then.
- Blockbuster, oh how I love you. My dear mother took a little trip to Blockbuster and got me two movies, New Moon and Julie and Julia, both of which I have seen and love. AND Season 1 of Gossip Girl (also love this show) and Season 1 of the original 90210 (which had to be ordered so it won’t come until next week). So now I have some more entertainment 🙂 And I can’t wait to see the original 90210 as I love the new version.
- Daytime TV, not so bad. I’m getting into Days of Our Lives again (oh soap operas… how crazy you are). I used to watch it all of the time but I kind of got out of it. And I love the Rachael Ray Show (the daytime show, not her cooking shows).
Breakfast this morning was some PB & J oats.
This batch was even more delicious than usual, not exactly sure why but I’m not complaining.
The base was my usual banana whipped oats (1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup milk, pinch of salt and cinnamon, 1/2 very ripe banana) and then I topped it with two different Crofter’s spreads, North American and Asia, and TJ’s Roasted Salted Almond Butter.
This bowl tasted EXACTLY like the PB & J of my childhood. Yummy…
Lunch was… well in theory, a good idea.
This was a wrap with sweet potato, baby spinach, 3 egg whites, and pumpkin butter.
Sounds pretty good right? It was ok but it was kind of missing something but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
I really want to try a wrap with sweet potatoes though, anyone have any tried and true recipes?
Lunch part 2/snack was VERY filling.
I had a pomegranate Chobani with a HUGE Fuji Apple.
Yummy but I was stuffed afterwards!!!
I was really not that hungry when dinner time rolled around… so I waited an hour… and still wasn’t hungry but knew I should eat anyway. So I had some Brussels…
Roasted with this incredible mango/coconut/tequila sauce that has one heck of a KICK to it!!! My mouth was on fire by the time I got done eating!
But ketchup helped to put on the flame…
Ketchup was also delicious on my “hot dog” 🙂
Which was composed of Great Harvest bread…
And an apple chicken sausage…
With plenty of ketchup and mustard, of course 😀 What’s a hot dog without ketchup and mustard?
YUM!!!
So even though I wasn’t that hungry at dinner, I just had to fit in dome dessert 😉
Vita-Top topped with Thin Mint frozen yogurt. Can it get any better? I think not.
Especially when consumed while watching New Moon. Oh yes, Friday night fun to be had here 🙂 Chocolate + Jacob, well that’s how I roll.
By the way, assuming you are into Twilight, are you on team Jacob or Edward? Team Jacob all the way!!!! C’mon now…
Jacob, will you come be my boyfriend?
I actually have a good friend who looks just like Jacob (a.k.a. Taylor Lautner)… with the incredible abs. I kid you not…
Don’t forget, you can vote for me over at Cook’s Mission!!
Guest Posts: As my life is not going to be very exciting or eventful in the coming weeks (here’s to hoping the only eventful thing is my healing), I’d like to throw in a couple guest posts each week. SO if you would like to write one for me, please send me an e-mail (cutiekitty1788@gmail.com)! You can write about whatever you would like – recipes we should try, your story of how you got on the road to health, running, swimming, other forms of exercise you enjoy, a poem, a story, overcoming an injury or eating disorder, product reviews, absolutely ANYTHING!!! I would really appreciate it if you would be so kind – I think it will make the blog a little more interesting
*I have gotten some GREAT bloggers who have offered to do guest posts soooo… be excited my friends!!! And I can still use some more guest posts so keep them coming, pretty please!
And now for tonight’s Ask Me Anything question…
Were you ever in treatment for your Eating Disorder??
No, I was not. In retrospect, I probably should have sought treatment. I kind of just dealt with it on my own and kept it all inside, most of my family did not even know that I had a problem. They were suspicious and were concerned about my weight but that didn’t know the extent of what was going on. Physically, I overcame my eating disorder and am at a normal weight now. Emotionally, it’s another story. This injury has forced me to face my eating disorder, yet again, and realize that it’s not gone. I’m not sure it will ever be completely “gone,” but as I deny my ED what it wants, I am slowly gaining the upper hand. I do plan on seeing a nutritionist once I begin exercising again.

That’s great that you can still work and be off your feet! I know vacationing on crutches must suck…but it could be worse 🙂
Sweet potatoes and black beans go REALLY well together! You could also add a little cheese in 😀
Danielle said:
Um, you know I love ya but its Team Edward all the way!!! Did you read the books? I loved the books (way more than the movies) and though no one can deny the beauty that is Taylor Lauttner, based on the stories its Edward for me 🙂
Take it one day at a time with the crutches…I hope time flies for you but Know it will be a struggle sometimes. Great news about work though!!!

I’m excited to do a post for you too! Glad you are feeling a little better about everything.
And even though Jacob has a MUCH yummier body, I am an Edward fan. Just the intensity between him and Bella melts me. LOL

I had a sweet potato with salsa and plain greek yogurt tonight and it was fabulous, maybe that would kick the wrap up a notch!?
2 words: Team Jacob.
Happy Friday night girl 🙂

That’s awesome they found something for you to do at work! At least then you won’t be stuck at home bored the whole time…
And I may have to start emailing you for Days of Our Lives updates! haha. That’s my favorite soap and every time I try to watch in on a day off, I’m sooooo lost now!

You’re seriously making me want an aple-chicken sausage right now. Not kidding, lol.
Glad to hear day 3 is a bit better 🙂 Give this a shot for a sweet potato wrap! I swear by it 🙂

Thanks so much for the encouraging words on my injury! You can clearly understand the frustration, and I’m sorry to hear about yours!
I’m pretty sure I’m going to bring one-pieces back in style, though… 🙂

great news to hear you’ll still be able to work! yay!
and i bet if you had a sort of cheese in that wrap at lunch it would have done the trick; or a bit of spices for that pumpkin butter! tasty!
i’m in the same boat you are with recovery: i have the physical aspect down but the emotional part? whole other story!

Team Jacob for sure! Ever since I read the second book. I have the movie here now too – and I’ve started watching it…but, weird, can’t seem to get into it yet…maybe it’s because it’s been awhile since I read the book and the whole “hype” is down – …I’m sure I’ll get into it soon though :)…and I have the 1rst season of Gossip Girl here too – hah! – but I’ve NEVER watched the show before believe it or not.
I just finished watching Survivor episode with a late, late dinner sitting in my guts…:(…try to sleep on that and get up 5 hours later…i hate myself…
anyways, as for the wrap – you need some zip to it – salsa and mustard …and PB i’d say …with a few rounds of cookies after…

Way to focus on the positive…thats the way to get through this. If you stress and panic it will only make you sad, and you need to be happy and well in order to heal! Every time you start to think “Oh that would be fun, but now it will suck because of my situation” remember that life is what you make it and you will only have one chance to make these moments count, so make them good ones, and I promise there will be better days ahead.
Also, it sounds like you have so many good distractions…especially the original 90210! I haven’t seen it since it was actually on the air, but I remember loving it when I was younger.
About the ED…a lot of people find that treatment helps them. I was in inpatient treatment MORE than once, which pretty much tells you how much it helped me. Sometimes the motivation just has to come from within you. Its amazing that you are managing the physical aspect. The emotional part always takes longer. I can’t tell you how long because I’m still figuring it out for myself, but people do recover completely from eating disorders, and that gives me hope.

Your eats look SO good today!!!!
I am not on either team … neither really does it for me. Jacob looks too baby faced for me, and Edward, well he just isn’t my type either.
How ’bout Johnny Depp?? Can I be team Johnny?
britchickruns said:
Bah I haven’t seen either of those movies! I REALLY want to see J & J, is it good? As for New Moon, I listened to the audio book and wasn’t that impressed…it seemed very slow!?
Sweet potato wrap does sound good – mayeb it was the egg whites that let it down? I find egg whites are HORRIBLE, I’d much rather include the yolk – it’s where all the taste is at!
Very glad day 3 was better- your mum seems wise!
And finnaaally, I agree re the ED thing; I don’t think mine will ever totally go, but I think of that as a positive; it means I’ll never suddenly become a lardy couch potato or something, and that perfectionism that comes with an ED can be channeled into doing other, good stuff 🙂 There’s always a positive 🙂
Have a great day!

Team JACOB!! Even though I’m not a big fan of Twilight, you don’t have to be one to appreciate his abs.
I never went to formal treatment for ED either, I’ve just seen various therapists. Though I’ve sometimes wondered if recovery would have been easier with an OP program, I’m happy with where I am now!!
Sounds like you get to watch some fun TV, I never have time!! At least there’s a few upsides to your injury 🙂 Hope you get to go back to work soon!! Have a great weekend love!!

Oh my God I used to watch Days of Our Lives everyday! I taped it on my VCR for years! Hahaha, so funny.
And your swirl in your oats is always so beautiful- I immediately get oatmeal cravings when I see ’em!
And I love chicken sausage. I’ve been craving some for a while now, so I better get on that and make a hot dog sammy like you!
theprocessofhealing said:
Haha I used to tape it too!!! Oh the good old days…
And thank you!

Wow your 90210 comment about the original just made me feel very old 😦 That’s good news about your job though! Keep up with the crutches and you’ll be feeling better.

I am so glad Day 3 is going better for you. All of your food looks delicious!
I watched the original 90210 and I feel very old too. 🙂 It’s a great show though, I’m sure it will keep your mind off other things!!

Hi Jess
I feel less alone. I always thought I was the only Team Jacob. I just like his innocence and naivity…feels so sincere and safe.
Wish we could get together and watch it 🙂

Hey
No problem for my response on your other post 🙂 Yes culinary school is interesting. I love reading blogs, and replying when I have things in common and love helping people! I’m so jealous of your oats, you must tell me how do you get your nutbutter to drizzle like that?!?! I always try to drizzle it it in a wave like that and it always ends up in a big old blob :(. I am going to walk to the gourmet market near me and possibly get a new jam/preserves….they have a huge selection..I’m also intrigued by “maple cream” although a little part of me is saying just use stevia I will stomp on that part ahaha
Have a lovely day!
theprocessofhealing said:
Thank you dear!! To drizzle the almond butter… well, there’s not real trick to it. This brand and type of almond butter is just runny. BUT for other almond butters, you can use Kath’s method for nut butter sauce or you can just put the nut butter on your spoon and let your spoon sit in your hot oats for a minute – it will be perfectly drizzly!

TEAM JACOB!! Definitely. I’m not a biggg twilight fan though, more just a Jacob fan : )
That’s so great that your boss is being so accommodating and you’re going to be able to work! I’m glad things are starting to look up!

I am sorry that you are on crutches girl! During my senior year of high school I was on crutches for almost 3 months after a tennis injury 😦 I remember having to walk out onto the football field in them when I was nominated for homecoming queen too! I know that it is so hard sometimes and I remember how badly I wanted to be off of them so many times! I promise the time will go by quickly though and it is so wonderful that your job is accommodating. I promise that it will be okay, even though at times it is probably really hard! And I have to admit that me and my youngest sister are TEAM JACOB fans for sure! hehehe 🙂
Claire said:
Wow, your boss is amazing! So glad you’ll be able to work — seems like you love your workplace! Crutches are rough, but you’re adapting so well.
That was amazing looking sushi the other day BTW! And the recipe that served as the base of that sweet potato salmon dish I made is from the blog Healthy Green Kitchen.

Glad to see you in a better mood, hun. Keeping up a positive attitude will help time go faster, and I’m sure the increased positivity will help your injury heal better as well 🙂
Chocolate and a good movie are definitely the perfect way to end a day… I just might have to do that myself tonight 😉 And when it comes to the Edward vs. Jacob debate, I’m going to have to side with Edward, but I think a lot of that has to do with his relationship with Bella. I can’t argue with the gorgeousness that is Jacob though 😉
theprocessofhealing said:
Oh I agree about Bella and Edward’s relationship and I know that everything works out in the end… but yes, Jacob is gorgeous indeed 🙂

Wow, how is Days of our Lives? I basically grew up watching it, and I remember when I was in middle school they brought in a bunch of young story lines so I was obsessed and taped it every day! Then I’d watch Passions after it…wow haha. However now when I flip past Days I have no idea who anyone is anymore!
PS I was originally Team Edward, then New Moon/Eclipse confused me and I was Team Jacob, but then after Breaking Dawn back to Team Edward. But sometimes I’m still not sure…
theprocessofhealing said:
Haha I feel you girl! Bella and Edward have something special buuut I still love Jacob 😉
