08 Dec 1955, New York, New York, USA --- The world's most famous Christmas tree was lighted in Rockefellar Plaza tonight for the 23rd consecutive year, heralding the Holiday season. This General view from the building across the street shows 9 foot Angeles with their trumpets pointed toward the giant tree in the background. The 65-foot Norway spruce is decorated with 2,500 7 watt <Firefly> bulbs and 1,400 plastic globes in many colors. Many soectators were on hands to witness the traditional lighting ceremony. --- Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS
